 SALES AT HELADOS ESTIU INCREASED BY 20% IN 2014

 In the last year 1.7 million euro has been invested in improving manufacturing, this amount will also be invested throughout this year.

In the last two years, 20 new innovations have been launched, between them Animadas stands out for achieving a place in the Top Ten successful creations of Kantar

Valencia, 20th of May 2015. Throughout 2014, Helados Estiu, associate supplier to Mercadona, sold more than 20 million litres of ice cream with a turnover of 46 million euro. In 2013, the turnover reached 40 million euro with almost 18 million litres of ice cream sold. The latest result thus shows an increase of 20% in litres sold as in turnover resulting in a final profit before tax of 1.2 million euro.

The year 2014 was marked by the launch of new innovations. New and improved products make up 18 of these, one of them being Animadas, vanilla ice cream in a biscuit with a stick. The making of this product requires a specific effort in innovation, management, production and manufacturing. Animadas was also featured in the Top Ten of the successful creations of the 2014 Kantar World Panel in the food and beverage category. The R&D department of Helados Estiu and the centre of ice cream and dairy dessert co innovation of Mercadona were involved in the making of Animadas and this product was launched by the work of both departments.

Investment has taken place over the past 7 years and in the past 2 years, 2 million euro has been invested in research and development and improvements to manufacturing. By 2015 a global investment of 13 million euro will be achieved. At the beginning of this accounting year the Valencian ice cream business has purchased 70,000m2 of land for future expansion and new challenges.

For Maria José Felix, director of Helados Estiu, this increase and the milestones achieved by Helados Estiu “show intangible rewards and success but effort is just as important”.

The spirit of Helados Estiu

Helados Estiu sustains a key part of its success in the spirit that drives the company and maintains the pursuit of excellence. This is carried out across the board in all departments with the involvement and support of the workers.

Support to the workers is not only given through training in the factory. Support is also given with regards to rotation of each post and turn so that each worker has a chance to experience different roles and different timetables. This avoids routine production and other difficulties.

This system forms a part of the Corporate and Social Responsibility of Helados Estiu which begins with the satisfaction and personal development of our staff in order to give back to society.

Research and Development

The R&D department of Helados Estiu forms a fundamental part of the growth and development within the company. This is done not only through the creation of new products, but also through the improvement of other departments of Helados Estiu. In fact, over the past 2 years almost half of the 2 million euro investment was invested in the R&D department in order to improve production lines and structures.

The R&D department also practices innovation with suppliers and both participated in the development of raw materials for this campaign where new toppings, improved and finer textures and new and more intense flavours have been created.
